Lobster Side Dishes

While you could have a meal of just lobster (yes, I do it from time to time), you can make the meal a feast with great lobster side dishes.

What would lobster be without clarified butter ? The perfect dipping sauce for chunks of hot lobster meat, drawn butter is easy to make. Next to butter, I think the most natural lobster side dish is - what else could it be - other seafood of course! Shrimp is a great addition to a lobster meal. Now, of course, we don't want that plain old frozen shrimp ring that tastes mostly like water. If you want some real shrimp recipes, and information on how to cook delicious shrimp, Shrimp Magic is the place to look.

Steamed Mussels are great as an opener to a lobster feast. They don't fill you up very much (as long as you don't eat too many!) Lobster with mussels are traditionally served at many lobster church suppers and shore dinners.

Seafood chowder is another traditional starter for a lobster feast. You just have to be careful, because a good one can be very filling very quickly.

Pan rolls go well with lobster, too, and can be used to soak up any of the lobster juices that end up on your plate. Red Lobster's cheddar biscuits are a world-famous accompaniment, and with good reason, too.

A nice crisp corn on the cob is another good go-with - even better if it's been bbq'd.

The crunch of a green salad or coleslaw sets off the rich taste of lobster well. Potato salad, or even cold pasta salad are good choices as lobster side dishes as well. Recipes of any of these, and a lot more salads besides that can be found at Easy Salad Recipes.

If you're up for surf & turf, check out The Meat Source - How To Identify, Select & Cook Beef & Pork to Perfection. The best cuts, cooking tips & instructions, illustrations, recipes and much more. It helps me grill up a steak to hubby's liking, one of his favourite foods.

I actually prefer ribs over steak. As I'm a bit obsessive over food, I spent about a year visiting different rib restaurants trying to find the best ribs. The best one I found was in Windsor, Ontario. For the longest time, I couldn't remember the name of the restaurant, but recently one of my kind readers sent me an email suggesting it was probably Tunnel Bar-B-Q (TBQ'S). That is indeed it (thanks Dawn!). Now, I do have to confess that I have never been to rib country in the southern States, and I might change my mind if I do go there. Anyway, for cooking ribs at home, here is a great resource for bbq and smoked ribs recipes.

Now, of course, side dishes for lobster can be more than just food. You need something to drink with your meal as well. And on a hot summer's day, nothing goes down like a nice cold beer. United Nations of Beer is a global beer resource. I was thrilled to find reviews of many beers, including ones brewed right here in NB, along with all the other provinces, and all the States, including Maine. Visit their Beer Recipes page for many fun and tasty ways to cook with beer. And yes, beer goes well with lobster.
